Great Ocean Road – Victoria

In the summer of 2016/2017, we escaped down south to finally visit Melbourne. We had a few bucket list items we wanted to tick off with the seeing the 12 Apostles located along the Great Ocean Road, being one of them.

We booked a tour that took us south from Melbourne, stopping at Lorne for lunch, spending a little time at the gorgeous Loch Ard Gorge before heading to the 12 Apostles.

While drizzling in the morning, the sun came out by the time we arrived at Lorne.

Lunchtime!

Next Stop – Loch Ard Gorge!

The 12 Apostles – technically only 8 left, it was still a sight to behold!

These limestone pillars were once connected to the mainland cliffs. Over time, the waves and wind carved them into caves, then arches, and eventually battered them down into 45-metre tall columns.

While we took the easy way – by tour bus, we think it would have been much better to do the trip over a 2-3 day period. That would have given us a lot more time to take in so much more that is down here – without having to rush. One day we will come back and spend more time really seeing it all.
